My clinical style is rooted in Psychoanalytic theory and practice, which involves approaching all clients with an understanding that their early experiences impact their current functioning through unconscious mechanisms. It also involves a primary focus on the therapeutic relationship, which provides opportunities for growth and healing through corrective emotional experiences. Because of this, therapy with me is often long-term, sometimes including multiple sessions per week.
Perinatal mental health focuses on the mental well-being of individuals and families throughout the pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum periods. The perinatal period involves unique needs and considerations, including specific mental health issues like Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders. The perinatal period also involves loss, from loss of sense of self to loss through death. With this knowledge, I work with birthing people and their families to navigate the life-changing perinatal period and treat their mental health concerns, both perinatal and otherwise.
Cancer impacts not only the person diagnosed, but also their loved ones. Though they have similarities, the experiences of people living with cancer, those caregiving for someone with cancer, and those bereaved related to cancer are all unique. Beyond their relationship to the cancer, each individual’s experience is also impacted by internal and external factors, from pre-existing mental health issues, to medical traumas, to disparities within the healthcare system. I use this awareness to address distress in all aspects of my clients’ experiences.
